"I've learned that maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them, and less to do with how many years you have lived. Life has no other discipline to impose, if we would but realize it, than to accept life unquestioningly. Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy and strength, if faced with an open mind. Every moment is a golden one for him who has the vision to recognize it as such."

Bhutto assassinated

Agence France-Presse - 12/27/2007 10:19 PM

Suicide bomber assassinates Pakistan's Benazir Bhutto

Former Pakistan premier Benazir Bhutto was assassinated by a suicide bomber Thursday, plunging the nation into one of the worst crisis in its history and raising alarm around the world.

Violence erupted in cities across Pakistan as mobs went on the rampage in a wave of anger that left at least 10 people dead and dozens wounded, officials said.

Bhutto's death stunned world leaders who appealed for calm and warned that extremists must not be allowed to destabilise the nuclear-armed nation before January 8 general elections.

But that vote appeared increasingly in doubt, with Pakistan's other leading opposition figure, Nawaz Sharif, announcing his party was now pulling out and urging President Pervez Musharraf to resign.

US President George W. Bush described the killing as a "cowardly act" and telephoned Musharraf -- a crucial ally in the US-led "war on terror" against Islamic extremism -- to discuss the crisis.

Bhutto was leaving a campaign rally in the northern city of Rawalpindi when a suicide bomber pierced her security cordon and shot her in the neck. He then blew himself up, killing around 20 people, police and party officials said.

The powerful blast tore off limbs and shredded clothes. Many people ran in panic, screaming as they trampled over pieces of human flesh. Puddles of blood dotted the road.

"There was an enormous explosion, and then I saw body parts flying through the air," said Mirza Fahin, a professor at a local college.

"When the dust cleared, I saw mutilated bodies lying in blood. I have never seen anything so horrible in my life -- just parts of human beings, flesh, lying in the road."

Musharraf, who announced three days of national mourning, urged people to remain peaceful "so that the evil designs of terrorists can be defeated." All schools, businesses and banks were ordered to close down.

But mobs of protesters took to the streets, torching buildings, trucks and shops, blocking roads and uprooting rail tracks. Shots rang out in a number of cities.

Interior ministry spokesman Javed Cheema said 10 people died in the unrest after her death -- four in Karachi, four in rural Sindh province in the south and two in Lahore.

Some protesters fired into the air, while others shouted slogans including "Musharraf is a dog." In Jacobabad in the south, protesters set fire to shops belonging to relatives of interim premier Mohammedmian Soomro.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the killing, but Bhutto had previously accused elements in the intelligence services of trying to kill her and said she had also received death threats from Islamic militant groups including Al-Qaeda.

"She was waving to the crowd from the sunroof of her car and then there was a blast," Bhutto spokesman Farhatullah Babar told state television.

Bhutto, 54, became the first ever female prime minister of a Muslim nation when she took the helm in 1988 for the first of her two premierships.

Her father, also a prime minister, was hanged by the military in 1979 after being ousted from power.

Educated at Oxford and Harvard, Bhutto's return here in October after eight years of self-exile brought hopes of power-sharing with Musharraf. They were quickly shattered.

Her homecoming rally was hit in the deadliest attack in Pakistani history, killing 139 people, while her talks with Musharraf ended in acrimony after he imposed emergency rule on November 3, lifting it six weeks later.

Her funeral was expected to take place Friday in her home town of Larkana, deep in the rural south.

There were frenzied scenes as hundreds of people mobbed her simple wooden coffin as it was borne uneasily out of the Rawalpindi hospital for the journey to the airport.

Her husband Asif Zardari, who had just flown in from Dubai, and their three children had a brief chance to see the body before the air force jet took off for Sukkur, near Larkana, officials from Bhutto's party said.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice called Bhutto's party successor and Zardari by telephone to press US support for the elections to go ahead, State Department spokesman Tom Casey said.

But Sharif, another two-time ex-premier and Bhutto's main political rival, said he would boycott the election.

"I demand that Musharraf quit power, without delay of a single day, to save Pakistan," he told reporters, calling for a nationwide strike.

World leaders roundly condemned what neighbour India called an "abominable act."

"The US strongly condemns this cowardly act by murderous extremists who are trying to undermine Pakistan's democracy," Bush told reporters.

United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon described it as a "heinous crime," and the UN Security Council condemned the "terrorist suicide attack" after meeting in emergency session to discuss the crisis.

nag-check lang ako ng hotmail ni Archie kanina, and when i logged out this news caught my attention.. grabe talaga 'yung nangyari noh? nakakatakot at nakakalungkot isipin.. nakakatakot 'coz of such an act na barbaric.. at nakakalungkot na, kahit sa Pakistan pa 'to, malaki pa din ang effect niya globally.. sometimes talaga you lose hope in the world today.. hay..

ust fireworks '07

eto lang talaga ang iniintay ko every Paskuhan sa UST.. ang fireworks. hehe! last year nga tumakbo pa talaga kami ni Abbie from UST Hospital papuntang Main Building just to get a view of the fireworks display.

sadly, for this year, mag-isa lang ako nanood nito.. 'yung mga gusto ko makasama eh hindi pwede. and di ko ine-expect maaga nag-start 'yung fireworks. if you'd look for a video of this sa YouTube, meron dun a maximum of 7min. etong sa akin eh mere 4 1/2 mins. lang. ehehe! pasensya na po, it was the best i can do.

that 'kilig' day

more than a month ago, October 18th nun, i remember it so well kasi the previous day was Raymond's b-day. at medyo sira ang tiyan ko the next day dahil dun sa palabok na handa ng kapatid ko. ewan ko nga ba kung saan nila nabili 'yun. eniweis, i still went to work kasi i thought ok na 'yung tiyan ko. ang ganda pa nga ng pagpasok ko 'coz nakasalubong ko 'yung near-to-being-a-crush ko.. (labo ba? hindi ko pa kasi talaga kras before) and that instant niya lang talaga ko nabati slash pinansin. he started as utility sa office nung Oct. 3.

my near-to-being-a-crush became a real crush from then on. nag-message nga ko agad kay Diane, who works at Abacast Travel naman (just a floor apart from Abacast Shipping). buti na nga lang at nakabalik na siya agad sa desk niya nun. kaya ayun, meron akong kasabay na kinikilig.. hehe! even nung uwian na, kinamusta ako ni kras and said 'ingat'. oh di ba? kilig day talaga.. sadly nga lang, that was the only time na nag-bonding kami ni kras. may mga times lang na nakausap ko siya sandali but that was because may pinagawa lang ako sa kanya. as of last Saturday (Nov. 17), umalis na siya. i don't know when ang balik niya eh.. =/

mga plano

sarap ng kinain ko for lunch kanina lang.. courtesy of Niña. i had a double-decker tuna sandwich.. :) yum! at mas masarap sya from the ordinary kasi Niña made it for me.. naks! sobrang tats ako! :D

kanina nagpasukat na kami for the uniform next year and nung Monday nakapili na kami ng colors. sabi ni Niña, bayaan ko na lang daw at magpasukat na din ako. i was worried sa cost ng magiging uniform ko tapos di ko naman masusuot kasi i plan to resign na at effective sana sa January.

gusto ko lang kasi masubukan na mag-take ulit ng board exam.. at siyempre, i wanted to get out from the company for the longest time na din. when i told Mama yesterday sa chat namin, i didn't ask for her permission. i just told her my plans. tutal nagsabi naman na ko nung May or June pa at na-delay lang talaga ang pag-re-review ko.

plus i didn't think it was fair na kung ano ang gusto gawin ng parents ko eh ginagawa nila. samantalang ako eh nag-sa-suffer.. actually kami ni Abbie. naisip ko pa nga kung di ako palarin sa board exam, baka subukan ko mag-work muna sa US ng ilang months lang. para na din mapagbigyan ang matagal na hinihirit sa 'kin nina Mama na sumunod na sa kanila. but i made it clear sa kanya na "baka" lang 'yun at kung sakali eh "ilang months" lang.

yup, this is my new phone na ngayon..

the PBB concert

PBB Season 1 Housemates in Tuloy Ang Buhay Concert
September 18, 2007 3:35 PM

Pinoy Big Brother Season 1 housemates proved that nothing, or even no one, can beat the original. With their successful reunion concert entitled Tuloy Ang Buhay Sa Mas Pinalaking Bahay  held last September 15th at the Araneta Coliseum, the first batch of housemates of the phenomenal reality TV show all together affirmed that they still have what it takes to make the audience jump up and down their seats.

The concert featured all the 13 housemates in extravagant song and dance numbers that brought the Big Dome down. Sexy girls Chx Alcala, Say Alonso, and Jenny Suico were all out in their enticing dance number, but it was their 3rd Big Placer, Cass Ponti, who allured PBB fans with her rendition of Rihanna's Umbrella. The boys, on the other hand, stepped it up on the dance floor  -- Rico Barrera, JB Magsaysay, Bob Dela Cruz, and 4th Big Place Uma Khouny giving a showdown of sorts. Meanwhile, Big Winner Nene Tamayo again put on her dancing shoes for another ballroom number with her dance partner and husband, Anthony, and fellow U Can Dance season 1 finalists. Other housemates also had the opportunity to perform with well-known OPM artists, like when Franzen Fajardo rapped his lungs out with Salbakuta and Jason Gainza sang with Rocksteady.

But it was heartthrob Sam Milby who made the night a very memorable one. Despite being just an "incidental" housemate and not even making it to the finals, this cute boy from the States's showbiz career flew to record breaking heights when he left the house. Singing Maging Sino Ka Man and My Girl, Sam caused quite a stir among the audience, especially the girls and the "not-actually" girls. Sam later thanked everyone for their support, because if it had not be for the Sam-fanatics, he wouldn't have come this far.

Cristy Fermin and Jobert Sucaldito also graced the concert for a chat with all of the housemates wherein they got to talk about their PBB experience and how their lives have been so far. Of course, knowing Nanay Cristy and Tito Jobert, an interview will not be complete without tackling some touchy issues concerning the housemates. The whole of Araneta listened as Say and JB each gave their side of the story regarding the recent argument they had during a press conference. Also, Uma clarified the rumor claiming he called season 2 housemate, Wendy Valdez, a "plastic." The Israeli housemate also reacted to the "not-so-nice" comments that Wendy apparently said about him. Tactless as he is, Uma ended the interview by saying that their batch is way more famous compared to other batches of PBB housemates.

In behalf of her colleagues, Nene thanked everyone for supporting their reunion concert, and then introduced The Dawn who sang their signature song, Salamat. This capped the night that will be etched in the memory of all PBB fans, a night when the people who started the phenomena once again gathered and showed everyone they still have Big Brother's magic.

nai cha

looks yummy right? pero hindi pala.. first sip ko pa lang eh halos isuka ko 'yung nalasahan ko.. yaaakkss! i was never fond of tea (the real kind, hindi 'yung like ng iced tea). and 'yung Nai Cha was *ugh!* true to the taste of tea. ang kaibahan lang siguro eh malamig siya, unlike 'yung tea na sine-serve sa mga Chinese restaurant.

last Tuesday (Sept. 18), nasa SM San Lazaro kami ni sister. naghanap talaga ko ng susuotin on Friday. ergo, i wanted to find something red. hahaha! after namin manggaling sa sangkatutak na stores, we had no luck at niyaya ko muna si Abbie na mag-dinner. i ordered 'yung Spicy Chao Fan at si Abbie, Wanton Noodles. 'yung drinks sana namin eh 'yung Black Gulaman kaya lang di daw available. naisip ko mukhang ok naman 'yung Nai Cha as an alternative. hindi pala.. ni hindi nga ko nangalahati dun sa drinks ko. i finished up my food then sabi ko kay Abbie bibili ako ng Kiwi Green Tea sa may Nutrilicious.

i wanted to make it up kay sister kaya 'yun sana bibilhin ko.

(as i'm doing this post sa opis! hehe!) so 'yun, kung gusto mo pa din i-try, 'kaw bahala.. hehehe! :p sabi ko nga kay Abbie, in any consolation, at least nasubukan namin pero hinding-hindi na ko uulit. hahaha!
